In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson오랜만에 읽은 역사책. 소설보다 재밌어서 시간 가는 줄 모르고 읽었다. 미국 대사 가족의 지극히 개인적인 시각에서 기록된 히틀러 치하의 독일 사회를 기록하고 있다. 히틀러 집권부터 전쟁 일으키기 직전까지. 난 히틀러가 집권하자마자 완전 독재 전쟁광이 된 줄 알았는데, 그냥 제대로 집권해서 그렇게 변한 거더라. 그래서 다들 설마, 설마 하다가 당한 듯. 인간 이성에 대한 지나친 믿음이나 사회적인 압박이 문제 아니었을까. 사회적 압박은 정말 무섭다.
