Dear Friends

We have been working hard to build a community driven forecasting model, that combines history, collective experience of our experts and consumer insights to identify the emerging trends in the food industry.

It’s still early days for this framework, but we thought it would be interesting to share how we can use the power of history and insights of our community to forecast what is coming our way.

The attached piece captures the evolution of Indian Restaurant Industry since our independence, we have correlated the progress of India’s restaurants with Bollywood as well as Hollywood movies made around the themes of food and/or chefs released between 1940s to 2016. It is interesting to see when we were struggling to deal with basic food security after the famine of Bengal, we made movies like Mother India, Do Bigha Zamin and Roti Kapda aur Makaan but the developed world’s movies during the same phase reflected celebratory mood. Fast forward 70 years, India seems to be catching up with the developed world both in terms of food security as well as in our movies but we still have the issue of hunger among those people, who continue to live below the poverty line and we need to collectively address the same.

The attached report also has some interesting insights on QSRs, Casual Dining Segment and Cafes; please read on. Please visit our website or download our applications (Android, iOS) to join the TagTaste community. Thanks for your encouragement and feedback.

Regards,
