Gearing up for COY17: TWYCC Shares its Local Climate Actions at LCOY Hong Kong and LCOY Japan

As the 17th UNFCCC Conference of Youth (COY17) and the 27th UNFCCC Conference of Party (COP27) approach, TWYCC Delegation to COY17 and COP27 has been gearing up for these conferences by not only holding intensive internal training but also attending LCOYs to actively share experiences in local youth climate actions.

Last week, on 23 October 2022, members of the TWYCC International Affairs Team hosted a virtual side event at LCOY Japan. Moderated by Jia-yi Lin, Project Manager of the International Affairs Team, TWYCC COP27 Delegation mentor, Jeffrey Chen, and Delegation Heads, Regina Chang and Ellen Cheng spoke as panelists at the online event. They shared TWYCC’s youth-led climate movements in Taiwan, including TWYCC’s international cooperation of climate advocacy campaigns, climate youth networks, climate advocacies, climate education, and our climate fiction projects.

On 9 October 2022, Jia-yi also attended LCOY Hong Kong virtually and shared TWYCC’s climate awareness campaigns in response to climate justice and adaptation in Taiwan.

What is LCOY?

LCOY, or Local COY, is a series of local youth conferences on climate change that are held around the world before UNFCCC COY. The purpose of LCOY is to boost local youths’ climate actions and create input for international climate conferences such as COY. It is one of the events under the umbrella of YOUNGO, the official youth constituency of UNFCCC.

Since the initiation of LCOY in 2014, more than 200 conferences were held in over 120 countries, and more than 40,000 youths have participated in these conferences. This year, there are 85 LCOYs taking place around the world before COY17.
