TWYCC Awarded “Climate Hero” by UNFCCC Youth Constituency
Taiwan Youth Climate Coalition (TWYCC) has been recognized as a “Climate Hero” at the 16th Conference of Youth (COY16). The certificate was issued by YOUNGO, the Official Youth Constituency of the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
TWYCC is one of the two institutions in the world that have been awarded Climate Hero. TWYCC is also the first youth organization in Taiwan to receive this recognition.
TWYCC applied for the certification that recognizes the contribution of international climate youth organizations last year at COY16. It was the first time that this certification was instituted.
The criteria of a recognized Climate Hero include submission of a youth statement with a minimum of 2,500 supporting signatures, two climate commitments, two posts for the promotion of COY16, funding support, and a demonstrable effort of diversity and inclusivity.
There are four levels of certifications of contribution: Climate Advocate, Climate Leader, Climate Hero, and Climate Champion. Climate Hero is the second highest recognition among the four levels following Climate Champion.
TWYCC issued their “Youth Climate Statement” in 2018 as part of their three-year project for domestic climate policy stocktake. COY16’s recognition of TWYCC’s 2018 statement is a landmark achievement to be recognized as Climate Hero.
