Tai Wānanga ki Ruakura students Maiya Smith and Moana Davis are performing for the Bubblegum Crew at the 2018 World Hip Hop Dance Championship in Phoenix, Arizona.

Passionate about dancing, both Year 9 students commute to Auckland weekly to attend practice at the Palace Dance Studio. The dance studio is the workplace of legendary choreographer Parris Goebel, aka Parris, and her ReQuest Dance Crew.

In recent weeks Maiya was chosen by Parris to perform in the ReQuest dance troop to prepare for a new music video by Ciara, an international hip hop artist. Since the release of the music video Maiya has attracted considerable media interest.
