First officially ‘fired’ mayor in Taiwan

This happened just now, and I have to share this breaking news!

Kaohsiung mayor Mr. Han was officially fired by the citizens just now.

This had never happened in Taiwan’s history.

For those who do not know who Mr. Han is, check this article about ‘the Taiwanese Trump’ and this headline story.

I watched the live broadcast of the recall election. It’s fun switching between the pro-KMT (Han’s party) and pro-DPP (the current ruling party) TV channels: the former focused on broadcasting Han’s live speech criticizing DPP, and the latter covered the international press conference held by the group leading the recall campaign.

Today, I have another reason to be proud of my country:

Taiwan has a democratic system that is fully working. We just proved that an irresponsible official can be peacefully removed within the system.
