This past June, cohorts from MOX batches 1–7 came to Taiwan Tech Arena for MOX Growth Hacking Week, a five-day event that brings startups together with experts and mentors to collaborate on digital marketing, market-entry, data analysis, and growth experimentation. Mentors included growth specialists Dan Wong, Ray Wu, Satwick Govindarajula, Neil Nand, T.R. Harrington, and Pei Ran.

TTA managed to find a window of time to interview several of these MOX teams to ask about their progress since leaving Taiwan’s Mobile Only Accelerator.

What is your company?
William: “
Screea is a platform that saves consumers money and helps businesses make money.”

James: “My company is Pinjam WinWin. Our company delivers short-term loans for small and medium-sized businesses in Indonesia. We are able to give our investors more than double the standard bank deposit rates yearly.”

Wayne: “Our product GoGames is a subscription-based Netflix style mobile gaming platform. We offer the worlds best mobile games, ad-free with free in-app purchases.”

Stefano: “My company is called Bubbleye. Bubbleye is world’s first User Acquisition Autopilot: an AI platform that automates and optimizes user acquisition across channels and countries.”

How did you come up with the idea for your company?

William: “From traveling a lot. The idea came from trying to solve a personal problem and of loyalty points that are worthless and about to expire.”

James: Indonesia has a problem with an average credit rating of 70% for the general population. There’s no credit rating infrastructure. Farmers couldn’t get enough financing and middlemen would buy for low and sell for high. I witnessed all this firsthand and wanted to find a solution.”

What’s the most important thing you learned between when your company started and now?

William: “Sacrifice. It’s not a 9–5, it’s 24/7. You also need to have fun while you’re working, or else you’re in the wrong startup.

James: “Constantly change. Continuously adapt. The product features never stay the same for more than one year.”

What advice would you give to other startups in your industry?

William: (Laughs) “Stop copying us. Companies are pivoting to our model. Otherwise, just be devoted. Get out there. Make noise, make friends, and attend conferences.”

James: Keep trying. Don’t be afraid to fail. I’ve failed dozens of times.”

Wayne: “Focus on the product, all the other stuff tends to fall easier into place if you have a great product. Make something that you’re proud of. Ignore the naysayers.”

Stefano: “Focus on your long-term vision and true value for your customers rather than living off the flaws and weaknesses of digital advertising, as too many middlemen and fraudsters have been doing for way too long.

Keep trying. Don’t be afraid to fail. I’ve failed dozens of times.” — James
