Startups from over 100 countries were brought to the Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore to display their innovations to the world at Innovfest Unbound. The two-day event started on Thursday, June 27th and concluded on the evening of the 28th. All throughout the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, companies (including Taiwan Tech Arena’s very own ten teams) were flooded by onlookers curious to see if they were in the presence of the next unicorn.

The morning of day one was met with TTA’s Managing Director Dr. Lewis Chen who spoke on the topic of how to scale up globally, an issue encountered by many startups in Asia. Dr. Chen was joined by Chelsea Sim, CEO, and Co-Founder of Botbot AI, Oliver Tan of ViSenze, and Yvonne Chen of Infinity Ventures. Together the quartet tackled matters related to mentors, accelerator programs, investors, and clients and closed with a talk about Taiwan’s unique position as a perfectly-situated launchpad for startups.

Out on the exhibition hall, visitors from around the world had the opportunity of seeing firsthand the extent of Taiwan’s top tech talents and depth of its promising industries in the form of AI, Health Tech, and Energy startups. Swarms of onlookers paid visit companies like FaceHeart, the face-monitoring company that can detect one’s pulse without making physical contact and eTreego, the company responsible for the first DC charger for e-motorbikes. By the end of day two, there was no question that Taiwan’s contribution to Innovfest was of great significance.

While some TTA companies were focusing on B2B solutions, others like Big Good Design and Zoetek Inc. were designing products for everyday consumers. Big Good Design’s product, Vago, is a miniature vacuum for compressing clothing and increasing room for luggage by 50%. Travelers would also get a lot of use from Zoetek’s wearable sleep analysis device to measure sleep patterns.

When examining the atmosphere of the room, it was easy to tell that all ten startups were excited to be at Innovfest. While CES, Vivatech, and InnoVEX were amazing opportunities in their own right, Singapore was an ideal proving ground for TTA’s teams. The peer-to-peer language exchange company, Language Hero noted their enthusiasm about the opportunity to perform in Singapore and mentioned that Singapore Airlines was already expressing interest in their AI-powered app.

TTA is looking for a healthy exchange between Taiwanese and Singaporean startups.

The events at Innovfest provided opportunities to connect with companies and get a better idea of innovations in other parts of the world as well. Collaboration, networking, and growth between startups was an equally important objective for TTA. As Dr. Chen mentioned in his day one speech, TTA is looking for a healthy exchange between Taiwanese and Singaporean startups.

The most recent trip to Singapore is just one of many steps for TTA as it looks to deepen its relationship with startups and accelerators throughout Asia and the rest of the world. As Taiwan’s technology sector continues to grow, so will the ambitions of its future entrepreneurs.
