“Belt and Road” Turns 5 Years Old
Is it helping the recipient countries or not?
An opinion from a newspaper, The Japan Times, mentioned a China’s big project “Belt and Road”.
The First version of it was launched in September 7, 2013 during a speech by Chinese President Xi Jing Ping. It aims to develop development for not only Asia but also Europe. Soon after, Chinese government added the “Marintime Silk Road”. As a result, it became one of the biggest initiatives in the world, “Silk and Road” initiative.

However, some analysis have cautioned against increasing debt among the recipient countries. Some of them argues that China aims to seize their airports and ports to be their military strategic point on Belt and Roads routes. Although some of countries which will join the initiative are considering whether or not canceling it, President Xi criticized the critics against the initiative.
The author’s opinion insisted that
Japan, the U.S. and Australia, along with European governments, should be working with China in various international financial institutions to fill local needs while promoting international best practices.
and also in conclusion,
These governments (Japan, U.S., Australia, and EU) should focus on helping recipients boost regional economic growth, stability, interconnectivity and prosperity.
I also agree that the developed countries should help their recipient countries to promote their economies but I think we should make it more clear that what the “Silk and Road” initiative is doing and whether or not it can help the recipients sufficiently before we corporate and join in.
