A Visit Inside The Dolmabahçe Palace — Istanbul, Turkey
Once the administrative center of the entire Ottoman Empire!
While we were in Istanbul in 2020, we were fortunate to have had the chance to visit the ornate Dolmabahçe Palace. It was November 10th, the day that President Atatürk had died in 1938, and all official sights in the city were free to enter.
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was the founding father of the Republic of Turkey and served as its first President from 1923 to his death in 1938.
According to Wikipedia:
Due to his military and political accomplishments, Atatürk is regarded as one of the most important political leaders of the 20th century.
Because the Dolmabahçe Palace was close to where we were staying and was significant to Atatürk's life, we decided to choose it as our day's destination, along with a couple of friends from our hostel.
We arrived at the beautiful property that sits along the western shore of the Bosphorous Strait, and below the popular restaurant zone of Besiktas (besh-ik-tash). Once we entered security, we were free to explore the vast grounds.
