Language, Speech, and Product Engagement

The above picture represents a Possible Theme called “Product Langue”.

  • Name: Product Langue
  • Clue: Language, Speech, and Product Engagement
  • Type: knowledge theme
  • Contributor: George Nurijanian
  • Reference: Ferdinand de Saussure’s structural linguistics

The theme of “Product Langue” was inspired by George Nurijanian’s tweet about Lenny’s newsletter.

I replied to the tweet and shared an idea for curating topics: making a “semiotic system diagram”. For example, the diagram below is about Creative Life.

The above diagram has three parts. One part is expanded into the diagram below.

You can find more details in A Semiotic System Diagram for Creative Life Curation.

Inspired by the discussion, I made a new Possible Theme: “Product Langue”. Langue and Parole is a theoretical linguistic dichotomy distinguished by Ferdinand de Saussure. Langue refers to the abstract system of language while Parole means concrete speech.

If we use the attached diagram, then we can find four types of knowledge engagement about the theme of “Product”.

  1. Unobservable: Users’ subjective experience
  2. Observable: Product Managers and Researchers
  3. Parole: Experts who product knowledge about “Product”
  4. Langue: Knowledge curators who aim to turn pieces of Parole (speech) into Langue (language)

I used the above diagram to make a reference called the landscape of Sociological Knowledge.

You can find more details in A Universal Reference for Knowledge Engagement.
