Gemma is writing under her pen name ‘Teenblogger’ and she is 14 years old. She has wanted to become someone people would aspire to ever since she was five. She started a blog because she wanted to know if people enjoyed reading her writing as much as she enjoyed writing it.

Now let’s chat with Gemma.

Q. What motivated you to start writing?

A. Well I really enjoy it. You can do a lot of things with writing, I guess my motivation is expressing myself in stories that didn’t happen to me but the emotions were the same. So I guess what motivates me is the change to express myself emotionally.

Q. How was your first writing experience?

A. My first writing experience was actually only a few months ago. I decided that if this was going to be my dream. Then I must try hard and try to work towards it. So I joined a holiday program called ‘write like an author’. After a week of learning new techniques and applying them to my writing, it felt great. That was my first real writing experience.

Q. Your favorite 3 books?

A. My three favorite books would have to be, The One by Kiera Cass in the selection series, The Masked Truth by Kelly Armstrong and The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale.

Q. Your favorite quote?

A. Well I don’t really have one but if I did it would have to be the quote by F.Scott Fitzgerald, “You don’t write because you want to say something, you write because you have something to say”.

Q. What is the most important thing required to be a writer?

A. Persistence and lots of patience.

Q. Your advice to aspiring writers?

A. Keep trying and don’t give up. If you want to learn some new writing tips make sure you experiment with techniques and try picking up techniques that authors use in their books.
