Blockchain tech startups are everywhere now. Across education, finance, healthcare, government, and other sectors, innovative uses of blockchain represent the fastest growing sector in tech. On AngelList alone, there are at least 1,520 startups seeking blockchain expertise. That’s more than listings for virtual reality and AI combined.
Established, global companies are also hiring blockchain talent. In 2017, IBM had more than 1,600 employees dedicated to over 400 blockchain projects, and still had 150 blockchain-related jobs left to fill. And according to Upwork, the largest global freelancing website, blockchain is the hottest skill in the U.S. freelance job market.

Blockchain Developer
The strongest career opportunities in the industry right now go to those who can build a blockchain. In other words, before companies can start using blockchain to improve efficiency and speed, developers need to get to work. Without them, there is no blockchain.
If you know, Microsoft SQL Server, Visual Studio, .NET, MVC, AJAX, SQL, C, C++, C#, Javascript, Node.js, JQuery etc., you’re wanted.
Blockchain Quality Engineer
A blockchain quality engineer makes sure everything works and maintains quality in the development environment. That means automation frameworks and tests, manual testing, and building dashboards. They also plan and deliver complex blockchain projects, which includes development and maintaining QA automated test standards.
Blockchain Engineer
Blockchain engineers build on top of the existing blockchain, which means creating apps, or dapps. In this role you determine the company needs then create the applications to meet those needs specifically on the blockchain.
To do this, you’ll need to be skilled in Java, Hyperledger Fabric, Ripple, Solidity, Python, Bitcoin, Oracle Identity, and access management solutions.
Blockchain Designer
There is always work for the designers, right? Just as any other industry, blockchain companies need designers to create websites and interfaces for normal humans to interact with the blockchain and its apps — both in mobile and web. Blockchain designers have to be skilled in UI design and work in Sketch, PS, and Figma.
Blockchain Legal Consultant / Attorney
You read that right. Legal consultants and attorneys are an absolute must-have for blockchain companies, especially for ICO’s. Many attorneys working in tech are being called upon to help guide these projects through new regulations and other issues — and it will only grow as the technology matures.
That’s just a small sample, but if you want to work in this field, and you are a beginner, the first thing you need to do is acquire the right skills. The vast majority of formal education institutions lack programs that include blockchain. Luckily, help can be found through non-formal education.
