1. Blockchains Acquires Development Firm Behind ‘The DAO’ Project

United States-based blockchain incubator and investment firm Blockchains, LLC, has acquired the German Ethereum dev team slock.it, according to a press release on June 3.

Slock.it’s team is reportedly around three dozen large, and is known for its creation of the now-defunct decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) project “The DAO.” Co-founders and brothers Christoph and Simon Jentzsch will reportedly join Blockchains as VP of technology and director of blockchain development, respectively.

2. John McAfee Says He Is Launching His Own ‘Freedom’ Cryptocurrency

John McAfee, the famous and infamous security pioneer and cryptocurrency enthusiast, is set to launch his own eponymously named currency, the McAfee Freedom Coin, this fall.

A white paper is forthcoming, but on the currency’s webpage, McAfee said that the coin is not subject to relative price setting mechanisms of other fiat currencies or digital assets.

3. Binance CEO Debunks Crypto Twitter Hysteria Over US Geoblock

A rumor that crypto exchange giant Binance had barred users from the United States and 28 other countries from accessing its decentralized exchange (DEX) has had Crypto Twitter in a tizzy. As is often the case with rumors, the truth is a bit more complicated — and a lot less tantalizing.

Speaking to CCN, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao debunked the hysteria. He explained that the geoblock of users from 29 countries including the U.S. and Venezuela only applies to a single website in www.binance.org, and he also clarified that Binance DEX itself is not blocking users based on their location.

4. Chinese blockchain entrepreneur Justin Sun won Warren Buffett’s charity lunch with $4.6M bil

This year’s charity steak lunch with the legendary investor Warren Buffett will probably be all about blockchain and crypto.

Justin Sun, the 28-year-old founder of blockchain platform TRON and CEO of peer-to-peer file sharing protocol BitTorrent, won the annual eBay charity auction to have lunch with Warren Buffett at steakhouse Smith & Wollensky in New York City. Sun, who calls himself a disciple of Alibaba’s founder Jack Ma, paid $4.6 million for the opportunity to dine with Buffett. Sun can also bring up to seven friends.

5. Facebook Holds Talks With CFTC Over GlobalCoin Cryptocurrency: Report

Facebook has started a discussion with the U.S. Commodity and Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) over the social media giant’s crypto stablecoin initiative.

According to a report from the Financial Times on Sunday, the CFTC chairman Christopher Giancarlo said the agency held “very early stages of conversations” with Facebook. The goal was to better understand if the firm’s crypto stablecoin could potentially fall under the CFTC’s regulatory remit.

6. Walmart teams up with Big Pharma to track drugs on the blockchain

Global retail Goliath Walmart has joined a consortium that’s attempting to build a blockchain for tracking pharmaceutical supply chains.

A spokesperson representing the firm confirmed to CoinDesk that Walmart has joined MediLedger, but they did not provide any further comments.

7. Amero-Isatek To Open Physical Crypto Exchange Station In Mexico

Taking advantage of Mexico’s FinTech laws that allow companies with a physical location to operate under a sandbox regulatory setup, Amero-Isatek will open a physical crypto exchange station in Monterrey, Nuevo León, by June 21. Seven more stations are planned to be opened across Mexico.

8. OKEx subsidiary OKLink launches new stablecoin, USDK

A leading cryptocurrency exchange based in Malta OKEx and its subsidiary are the new entrants in the stablecoin arena. The subsidiary OKLink according to a blog post published on June 3 will start issuing a dollar-pegged stablecoin with the symbol USDK.

9. Israeli Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Cryptocurrency Exchange in Bank Dispute

The Supreme Court of Israel has declared that Leumi Bank cannot block the cryptocurrency exchange Bits of Gold’s account on the grounds of regulatory concerns, according to a report by Finance Magnates on June 3.

Despite the Supreme Court’s ruling against Leumi, the bank reportedly maintains its stance against dealing with the exchange. The report notes, however, that this ruling sets precedent for Israeli cryptocurrency firms to legally use traditional banking services in the region.
