1. Facebook crypto plans turn up heat on EU banks over real-time payments

The euro zone could have an instant payments system shared by all banks in the bloc by the end of 2020, finance industry officials said, as lenders face more competition from the likes of Facebook and other tech firms.

2. LG Electronics and LG International to Join Kakao’s Blockchain Platform Klaytn

LG Electronics and LG International, the core affiliates of LG Group, have agreed to join Kakao’s blockchain platform Klaytn. As Samsung Electronics started to actively participate in the blockchain business by equipping the Galaxy S10 with a blockchain key store, LG is also trying to expand its business by taking the blockchain related industry as the next-generation business.

3. US Lawmakers Question Terrorist Use of Facebook Cryptocurrency

Members of the U.S. House of Representatives questioned Financial Crime Enforcement Network (FinCEN) director Kenneth Blanco about Facebook’s planned cryptocurrency Thursday.

Representatives Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO), Trey Hollingsworth (R-IN), Bill Foster (D-IL) and French Hill (R-AR) held a briefing with members of the House Financial Services Committee, discussing the Libra project with Blanco, who heads up FinCEN, the U.S. Treasury Department’s anti-money-laundering wing.

4. Overstock.com unit tZERO Wallet to launch digital currency wallet, exchange app

Overstock.com subsidiary tZERO said on Thursday it has launched a digital wallet and exchange app for cryptocurrencies.

Investors who want to participate in the global cryptocurrency market will be able to buy, sell and hold these digital assets directly through the tZERO Crypto App on their mobile phone, rather than using more vulnerable, third-party exchanges for custody, tZERO said in a statement.

5. ShapeShift Founder Says Crypto Exchange Service Will Support Libra

ShapeShift could be integrating Facebook’s Libra in the near future, Erik Voorhees said.

The Shapeshift CEO commented on Facebook’s cryptocurrency project from a personal perspective at the Bitcoin2019 event, declaring that even though Libra doesn’t exist yet, there’s a space for it in his platform.

7. MAS in talks with Facebook over its Libra cryptocurrency

Facebook’s new Libra cryptocurrency could help to solve inefficiencies in cross-border payments, but the social media giant’s initiative needs deeper study, Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) managing director Ravi Menon said yesterday.

Talks with Facebook have already begun, Mr Menon told reporters. “We have been following closely,” he added. “We are carefully studying this new development.”

8. Hackers breach cryptocurrency exchange Bitrue for $4.2M in Ripple and Cardano

Another day, and another cryptocurrency exchange hack. Attackers have thieved $4.2 million worth of cryptocurrency from exchange Bitrue.

Earlier today, the exchange announced on Twitter (spotted by ZDNet) that it was subject to a hack in which bad actors made off with 9.3 million Ripple $XRP▼12.22% ($4 million) and 2.5 million Cardano ($233,000) coins. At the time of writing, the amounted totals to a little over $4.2 million.

9. Winklevoss’ Gemini Exchange Launches Chicago Office to Serve as Engineering Hub

Winklevoss brothers-led Gemini crypto exchange is launching a new office in Chicago, the firm officially announced on June 27.

Headquartered in New York, Gemini adds its new Chicago office to their existing office in Portland, Oregon, Gemini co-founder Tyler Winklevoss wrote in a Medium post on Thursday.

10. Brazilian Exchanges to Integrate the Real-T, a Stablecoin Pegged to the Real

Brazilian cryptocurrency exchanges are rolling out support for a stablecoin, according to a report by Cointelegraph Brasil on June 26.

Brazilian platforms including PagCripto, Nox Trading, 3xBit, and Bitcambio, are reportedly slated to be the next adopters to issue this new stablecoin — pegged one-to-one with the Brazilian real — Real-T (REALT).
