1. Facebook stock pops as investors anticipate its cryptocurrency announcement this week

Facebook’s stock rose 4.2% Monday as investors anticipate the company’s entrance into the hot cryptocurrency space.

According to reports from The Wall Street Journal and elsewhere, Facebook has partnered with companies like Uber, Visa and PayPal to create its new cryptocurrency called Libra. The initiative is run by David Marcus, the Facebook executive who previously ran Facebook Messenger. He was the president of PayPal before joining Facebook.

4. Brazilian Financial Authorities Announce Regulatory Sandbox For Blockchain

Four of Brazil’s major financial authorities have come together to regulate emerging technologies, including blockchain. The Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank of Brazil, the Securities Commission, and the Superintendent of Private Insurance recently announced their intention to adapt new regulations to manage fintech and cryptocurrency advances.

The regulations will affect Brazil’s securities, financial, and capital markets, according to the regulators. The institutions will also create a regulatory sandbox in the hopes of understanding and allowing concessions for new fintech ideas.

5. Bloomberg: UK Interdealer Broker TP ICAP to Sell CME’s Bitcoin Futures

United Kingdom-based interdealer broker TP ICAP will sell bitcoin (BTC) financial derivatives, Bloomberg reports on June 17.

Per the report, the ICAP unit of the firm now allows its customers to buy or sell the Chicago Mercantile Exchange’s (CME) bitcoin futures. In June, the Chicago Board Options Exchange’s bitcoin futures will expire with no current plans for renewal, leaving the CME as the sole offerer of BTC futures.
