1. Bitcoin Tests $11.3K With Fresh 2019 Highs

Bitcoin has broken yet another 2019 record, reaching as high as $11,304, before conceding a short-term period of profit taking. At 21:00 UTC on June 23, the world’s largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization shot upwards on the daily chart, cementing a new high beyond June 22’s peak of $11,215.

The move to another 2019 high comes after bitcoin’s price dropped to as low as $10,416 on June 23 before another surge of buying pressure pushed prices back above $10,750 within the same day.

2. FATF to Strengthen Control Over Crypto Exchanges to Prevent Money Laundering

Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) announcement on Friday (21 June) focused on digital currency’s role in money laundering and heightened regulation, as Secretary Steven Mnuchin noted in his closing remarks.

U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin said that the new measure will require that crypto assets service providers comply with anti-money laundering (AML) and combating the financing of terrorism (CFT) procedures in the same way traditional institutions do. The organization’s final guidance pamphlet went into greater detail on this subject

3. Report: Two Israeli Brothers Arrested for Hack of Bitfinex Crypto Exchange

Two Israeli brothers have been arrested in connection with the hack of cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex and other crypto-related phishing attacks, finance news outlet Finance Magnates reports on June 23.

4. Cardano (ADA) Stays On Top In the Wake Of Shelly Testnet Launch

Majority of altcoins have been a bit stable in the last few hours and even down for some, especially in the top ten cryptocurrencies. However, ADA has sustained its green candle regardless of the slight pullback, gaining 5.14% in the last 24 hours at the time of writing.

This is coming in the wake of Cardano’s Shelly testnet, a key achievement in the development of Cardano. Since the launch on 21 June, ADA has climbed almost steadily from $0.08 to the current $0.1.

5. Grayscale’s Ethereum Trust Product Is Now Trading on OTC Markets

Digital Currency Group (DCG) subsidiary Grayscale Investments has introduced an Ether (ETH)-based security product called Grayscale Ethereum Trust (ETHE) that’s now tradable through over-the-counter (OTC) markets. Grayscale’s blog post (published on June 20, 2019) also notes that ETHE is “an open-ended trust that holds Ethereum.”

6. MyEtherWallet Steps Into DeFi With MakerDAO Integration

MyEtherWallet (MEW) users will now be able to generate Dai straight from the interface, marking another important step for the platform as it expands its offering into decentralized finance.

MEW users will be able to create collateralized debt obligations (CDPs) through a MakerDAO portal. The first integration of its kind, it means users can create, monitor and trade their Dai tokens, as well as ultimately redeem them for the underlying Ether (ETH), all without leaving the wallet interface.

7. Mexican President Calls on Facebook to Extend Internet Access to Rural Citizens

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has called on Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg to form a partnership to expand internet access across the nation’s rural areas. Such a deal would also be beneficial to the social media giant’s new Libra digital currency — since many of those living in such areas also have scant access to banking facilities.

9. ethereum Devs Approve First Code Changes for ‘Istanbul’ Hard Fork

Two Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) have been approved for inclusion in ethereum’s next major upgrade, Istanbul. These are the first two code changes to be officially approved for the Istanbul upgrade, which is tentatively targeted to activate on ethereum mainnet in October.

In today’s bi-weekly call, developers discussed which of the nearly 30 EIPs for Istanbul would be approved and which would be rejected or delayed for a later system-wide upgrade, also called a hard fork. While the majority of EIPs still do require further discussion, two are now officially approved.

10. A radically new Zcash blockchain is being built to serve 10 billion users

The Electric Coin Company (ECC) — which builds privacy coin Zcash — has some grand ambitions.

Zcash was invented in 2016 by the Zcash founding team, which included Zooko Wilcox, a Colorado-based cypherpunk who has designed multiple network protocols. With a $750 million market cap, Zcash is the second biggest privacy coin, behind Monero. The ECC’s plan is to make crypto as anonymous and easy to use as cash — and, like most cryptocurrency companies, it wants to be the most widely-used coin in the world.
