1. Societe Generale-Owned Bank Launches Blockchain Exchange Note

Kleinwort Hambros, a Societe Generale-owned private bank and wealth manager, has launched an actively managed exchange-traded note (ETN) targeting the blockchain sector.

The London-based bank announced the news on Monday, saying its Luxembourg-listed ETN will invest in companies that could “profit most” from the development and increasing uptake of blockchain technology. ETNs are unsecured debt securities that, like exchange-traded funds (ETFs), are traded on a stock exchange.

2. Lithuanian Finance Ministry to Introduce Legal Amendments for Crypto-Related Firms

The Republic of Lithuania’s Ministry of Finance plans to release legal amendments for operating crypto-related businesses in the country, Riga-based newspaper The Baltic Times reports on April 8.

According to the report, the Lithuanian finance ministry wants to bring more legal certainty to the operation of companies relating to cryptocurrency exchanges, crypto wallet operators, as well as initial coin offerings (ICOs).

8. Nigeria: Financial Watchdog Receives Petition Against Crypto Exchange Over Account Closures

Estonia-based crypto firm Paxful Inc. has been accused of defrauding thousands of Nigerian investors out of millions of dollars worth of cryptocurrencies through allegedly arbitrary account closures. The news was reported by local media agency Punch on April 7.

According to the report, the Nigerian non-profit organization United Global Resolve for Peace (UGRP) filed a petition on April 2 with the country’s financial watchdog, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which outlines Paxful’s Inc.’s alleged malign practices and their impact on its Nigerian client base.

9. New York Kraken Ex-Employee Sues Crypto Exchange Over Failure to Pay $900,000

Kraken has repeatedly said that it has no operations in New York but a lawsuit by an ex-employee has disputed this putting the bitcoin exchange at risk of facing the wrath of financial regulators in the Big Apple.

According to Bloomberg, Kraken’s ex-trading desk manager, Jonathan Silverman, is suing the cryptocurrency exchange for over $0.9 million. He is consequently seeking compensation for unpaid commissions and stock options.

10. Canadian Crypto Exchange QuadrigaCX Officially Declared Bankrupt

Canada’s major cryptocurrency exchange QuadrigaCX has been officially declared bankrupt, local media outlet CBC reported on April 8.

Quadriga’s bankruptcy was reportedly approved today by Nova Scotia Supreme Court Justice Michael Wood, and follows the court monitor Ernst & Young’s (EY) recommendation that it should be declared bankrupt earlier this month.
