How does recruiting work for colleges?
We plan our prospects and understand which ones fit for the roles we want to have. We look for players that want to stay at least 3 years in school. So that is different from Team Academies.
We have 3 coaches that can contact players. We scout players starting sophomore year but can’t contact them until junior.
We rely a lot on asking around for talent. We contact friends or people we know from development leagues to get information from players.
What is the main issue you have in recruiting?
TIME! There are so many players and not enough resources to dedicate the necessary time for all players.
The other big issue we have with players is we can’t get their proper information. Academies don’t share correct info.
How long would a video have to be for you to tell if a player is good?
At a College level it’s hard to tell just from a video, but it would work for younger players. I would say 5 to 7 minutes (due to time constraints) as well as access to a full game tape. “Everyone can make an interesting highlight video”.
