Sadness. Redefined,
by our memories hiding from awareness, lost in time.
Watery dreams surface, unfulfilled and gasping for sure breath,
before diving deep into the subconscious, drifting between life and death.

Unrealized dreams without consequence to our waking lives,
Yet still damning us to the bowels of those forgotten shipwreck dives,
Coral reefs of all kinds dotted with anxiety, fear, boredom and bliss,
Finned and gilled creatures feeding off the remnants of the dreamless abyss.

Sadness: the mind’s subaquatic match with neither counterpart nor contradiction,
submersed in our dreamy aquarium, a glass box to hold our stormy affliction.
Sea monsters enchant us to reject intuition, that silly earthly disguise,
cleverly sending our memories off course, the odyssey nearing demise.

Below the turbulent waters of our dreams is a deafening and silent peace,
how humbled we are floating with the memories of thoughts we entrust to release.
Mermaids stroke our mind’s imagination, the heart’s longing for harmony caught adrift,
Still deeper we must go, plunging into seafloor’s sightless graveyard shift.

Sadness: fragmented memories morphing into dreams wrought with stories untold,
of lives un-lived or burned too brightly, that truth so heavy to behold.
Courage to seek hidden treasure, anchoring to our inner compass and for all humankind,
if only we allow our dreams to swim through the deepest recesses of the mind.

In the ocean of memory we’ll find sadness at its most beautiful and raw, delicate and sweet,
a journey of slow descent, a knight on a quest, no thoughts of turning back or defeat.
Sadness. Redefined,
for when we bear witness to the beloved waves of being,
As we surface to fill our lungs with air that breathes life to our dreams and finally, freeing.
