“Success depends heavily on how we approach our interactions with other people”, Adam Grant.

Whether you’re an entrepreneur or work in a multi-national corporation, you’ll have met some awesome people that have helped you through your professional life and enhanced your career.

These people may have given you advice, taught your new skills or given you a different perspective to achieve your goals. Any one particular interaction will have a giver and a taker. Is it as simple as that?

Adam Grant is a doctor in organisational psychology, a professor and a management thought leader. In his book: Give and Take: Why Helping Others Drives Our Success, he defines two principals:

“Givers are other-focused, paying more attention to what other people need from them.”

“Takers (…) like to get more than they give. They tilt reciprocity in their own favor, putting their own interests ahead of others’ needs”.

The behaviour of takers is to “take all that I can get from generous people and climb the ladder”. The problem here is that “when takers win, there’s usually someone else who loses.”

How to Foster a Culture of Giving?

As Ronald Riggio puts it: “Organisations can foster a climate of giving by encouraging members to be clear when they have needs, and being open to help from others”.

This important message is at the heart of Talking Circles. We provide employees a simple tool that will revolutionise organisational culture by allowing them to interact and help each other through the process of peer-mentoring.

What is Peer Mentoring?

Peer mentoring allows two people to exchange knowledge, skills that will improve their professional and personal life without a hierarchal barrier.

Improving company culture is key to engaging and retaining the modern workforce.
