INVESTMENT PHILOSOPHY AND BACKGROUND

Over Analyser

Since day one of the Index Coop, Over Analyser has been an active community member contributing regularly to governance forums, Zoom meetings and the community Discord. OA is a “shy owl” and prefers not to disclose too much personal information but he tells us that his happy place in front of an excel spreadsheet. We got a chance to talk to him about his background, investment philosophy and involvement in the Coop. Check out the full interview here:

Over Analyser is based in the UK. He is professionally a chemist with a focus on streamlining yields and profitability in industrial production. OA has been trading stocks and index funds for more than 20 years. Over that time, he had mixed results in picking individual stocks and thus prefers the diversification and ease of index funds.

His investment philosophy might seem boring, but it’s to keep things low risk and low involvement; no quick trades and riding hype cycles. As capitalism generally works in the long run, this low-effort, mid-range reward approach works better than as OA says “trying to out-perform teams of professional brokers based on a hunch.”

OA bought his first Bitcoin in late 2013. His interest was rekindled in 2017 as the prices began to rise dramatically. This last summer he crypto once again got his attention with the rise of yield farming. OA’s shift into DeFi was a gradual. He had held Maker for quite a while, and watched the Compound token launch from the sideline. However, soon after he was ready to enter into the fray. Yearn in particular caught his owl eye because of its ease of capturing returns, ideally suited for a ‘low effort’ investor like him. OA believes that if you offer people a dependable, low-risk dividend while keeping costs low for the users then the project will be successful.

Around this time was the launch of the DPI Index. This was a perfect product since it blended his investment strategy preferences of indices with crypto assets. One thing in particular that attracted OA to the DeFi Pulse Index is just how simple it is to understand. By already understand the other underlying projects, and the wisdom behind Indices, the DPI made a ton of sense. Being market cap based, there is no reason to stress about exploits or rug pulls. According to OA he would be comfortable buy the DPI and forgetting it for 5 years.

In that vein, OA has spoken up several times about the importance of keeping the DPI stable and secure. There have been a lot of discussion in the governance forums of DPI about what to do, if anything, with the funds that are under vault. Some options include depositing into Compound, to staking into the governance, or some mixture of both. Since this adds additional risk, OA thinks it is paramount to not make any hasty decisions and to be transparent about the usage of the funds.

Overall, OA is excited about the potential of the Index Cooperative and is looking forward to counting to contribute to the project. If you want to read more of his thoughts and ideas around the DPI, investment and ETF check out his personal blog at : https://overanalyser.medium.com
