Voice: Communication Rediscovers its Superpower

In a world where we are constantly connected, being able to communicate when, where and how we want is powerful. Yet, so often people rely almost exclusively on texting, despite its obvious limitations when trying to talk about something with any richness while mobile. With Talko my team has discovered how flexible and productive voice communication can be.

As DigitalGlobe’s corporate marketing team, we’re responsible for coordinating a variety of concurrent activities and events between teams in Colorado and Virginia. If you haven’t heard of DigitalGlobe, we provide high-resolution, commercial earth imagery products and services to customers around the globe. As our company and team expand, we’re constantly trying to do new and innovative things for our customers. Part of my team’s job is to ensure that key campaigns and events — including satellite launches — run smoothly. To do this, team members at an event site need to be in sync with those back at the office or elsewhere. We need the ability to instantly communicate, troubleshoot an issue and get things done quickly.

We recently launched a new satellite called WorldView-3, one of the most capable commercial imaging satellites in the world. Our team used Talko extensively throughout the launch. The flexibility of communication made Talko a great fit for our team. Everyone was able to communicate when and how they wanted — with voice or text, LIVE or not. We’d often add photos as we talked to show remote team members what was going on in the moment.

For a distributed, mobile team, we found that Talko eliminates the complexity of connecting, communicating and getting things done. During the Worldview-3 launch, we’d occasionally conference LIVE, but we didn’t have to. Because Talko keeps track of all our conversations in one place, everyone was able to keep up on the latest status and ask or respond to questions, all with the convenience of talking on their own time and without being disrupted unnecessarily.

Since using Talko during the WorldView-3 launch, we’ve discovered many more scenarios where it simplifies our communication. As the team in charge of virtually anything our customers see, from branding, to our website, and our Customer Listening program, it’s extremely important that we’re constantly in sync. Using voice in Talko has made that possible. It’s made us more efficient and more productive. In a world where we all want fewer meetings and more doing, I’d not imagined that more talking might actually be the solution, but this unique app has shown us the way.

Talko is now a part of our lives. It’s been an amazing addition to our team and I’m excited to watch it grow and transform how we communicate in the workplace.
