Last week, blockchain experts and enthusiasts got a chance to meet at the Cryptocurrencies and Digital Assets Dialogue held at the Intercontinental Hotel Landmark72 in Hanoi. The event creates an opportunity for open discussions about the ups and downs of this industry, including regulations and legal framework, investment opportunities, consumer education, and recruitment insights. Here are five takeaways that can be helpful for candidates and employers who are looking to find their match in this growing sector.

The panelists: Long Phan (Way4SME), SNguyen (Midas Protocol), Martin Nguyen (Blockchain Excellent Search), Robert Vong (Talo Protocol), Veta Wu (Huobi), and moderator Kevin Tung Nguyen (JopHop)

Good news for lawyers, marketers, and engineers.

Robert Vong, Chief Strategy Officer and Co-Founder of Talo Protocol, named three main functions inside a blockchain project: legal, marketing, and technology. Robert advised that engineers should not be looking at blockchain at a high level. Instead, focus on the building blocks that make the technology work. For marketers, Robert urged candidates to explore popular communication channels for this sector, and hone their skills on digital and content marketing.

The three I’s to consider: Integrity, Initiative, and Innovation

According to Veta Wu, Regional HR Director of Huobi Global, these values should be at the core of every blockchain company. Thus, candidates should be considering how they could align their own values with the three I’s. Integrity is of utmost importance in a highly uncertain industry like blockchain. Clients’ and investors’ wellbeing should be at the center of discussions and business strategies.

“You cannot wait for things to happen in this field. Up and coming competitors can overtake you overnight.” Candidates should take initiatives and be curious. Finally, the industry is highly innovative. Companies should give their people the freedom to create while candidates should strive to be innovative problem solvers.

Be passionate, curious, and introspective

According to Long Phan, GM and Co-Founder of Way4SME, the right blockchain candidate should be passionate about solving real-world problems. Ultimately, the industry aims to improve the world and make a difference. Talo Protocol’s Robert Vong also advised candidates to be selective of what they listen to and whom they learn from. Be introspective. Dig deep and be curious. Don’t just look at things at the surface level. There are countless resources out there for people who wants to learn about blockchain technology.

Be ready to shine

In a traditional corporate setting where you are competing against hundreds of employees, it can be very hard for you to shine. In the blockchain industry, however, you will always have the chance to “chip in”. Instead of taking directions, you’ll be creating processes and setting up guidelines. The chance to build from the ground up is hard to come by, make the most of it and learn a lot along the way.

In the end, your career path is a very personal journey

If you are a student, take risks. Don’t let the uncertainties of this field bog you down. What you’ll gain at the end will justify the journey. If you are someone who has to be responsible for your family, you may have to be more conservative. Each person’s career path is a very personal journey. The key is to know what you want and need. Don’t waste time shifting from place to place, instead focus on building one skill that is valuable. It’ll help you go far in this industry.
