It’s not a secret that in recent years, especially post-pandemic, the digital space has become one of the most promising avenues for building a community and spreading the word about your nonprofit. Over 87% of nonprofits worldwide have social media accounts, but there is a huge difference between having social media and actually using it to raise funds, gain supporters, and increase your impact.

In the attention-based economy, most social media pages have less than a second to attract the attention of viewers. It’s no wonder most brands on the internet, from YouTube creators to tech companies, use hundreds of different tools to grab and retain the attention of viewers, making their dashboards look a lot like forensic labs. Unfortunately, most nonprofit content gets lost behind more engaging, higher-quality posts.

In this article, I hope to shed some light on the different free tools you can use to establish a strong presence for your nonprofit and see exponential growth.

Free and Low-Cost Tools

You’d be surprised at how many tools are available for free or at a discount to help your nonprofit succeed online. From design tools to project management software, there are plenty of resources out there that won’t break the bank. Here are some great options to get you started:

  1. Canva for Nonprofits

Canva offers a free premium subscription for nonprofits. With this, you get access to professional design tools to create social media graphics, presentations, posters, and more.

2. Google for Nonprofits

This program provides access to a free Google Workspace, $10,000 per month in Google Ad Grants, and other tools. Google offers a lot of free resources for nonprofits, from ad space to access to their workspace. This is probably the best free resource available for nonprofits in the digital space, so I highly recommend taking advantage of it. You can easily start the application process, and then you can start using many of their tools to create a strong digital presence for your nonprofit.

3. Microsoft 365 Nonprofit

Microsoft offers free or discounted subscriptions to Microsoft 365 for nonprofits. This is an excellent all-around solution for team management. They offer a wide range of benefits, from grants for full-time employees to discounted offers for both volunteers and employees of a nonprofit for their services. If you prefer to use Microsoft 365, this is an offer you should definitely look into.

4. Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud

Salesforce provides 10 free subscriptions to their Nonprofit Cloud for team management and CRM tools.

5. Asana Nonprofit Discount

Asana offers a 50% discount for nonprofits for project management, task tracking, and team coordination. The project management tools are especially useful for creating content calendars and ensuring consistency in posting social media updates about your nonprofit to boost engagement.

6. TechSoup

TechSoup provides discounted software, hardware, and services to nonprofits. They offer products from companies like Adobe, Microsoft, and Symantec at reduced prices.

7. Zoom for Nonprofits

Zoom offers discounted plans for nonprofits to host online meetings, webinars, and virtual events. This can help your team stay connected and engage with supporters and donors from anywhere.

8. Dropbox for Nonprofits

Dropbox provides a 30% discount for nonprofits, which helps you store and share files securely in the cloud. You can safely keep important documents online, easily share files with team members and volunteers, and collaborate on projects by giving access to shared files. This makes managing documents and collaboration efforts much simpler.

Great! Now that we have access to free and discounted resources to strengthen your nonprofit’s digital presence, we need to know how to use them effectively.
