🐶Koer is man’s best friend
Almost all my life I have lived with dogs. Even after moving to Estonia, I flew happily home in order to see my corgi. So I thought about getting a dog here in Estonia in the next couple of years.
Therefore, today is a post about dogs and everything you need to know before getting a pet in Estonia.
▪️You are obliged to install a microchip for the dog and enter it into the register.
So, if the dog gets lost and is found, it will be quickly returned to the owner.
▪️The chipping procedure costs from 20 € to 30 €. The implantation is painless for the animal, because a chip is half the size of a grain of rice.
By the way, the microchip can be implanted in any animal species at any age. That is why, in addition to dogs and cats, Estonia has registered ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, horses and even a SNAKE.
▪️ By law, you must vaccinate your dog against rabies and it is recommended that you get a general vaccination against other diseases.
▪️When in a public place, the dog must be on a leash, and if the pet is large and the leash is longer than 1 meter, then also in a muzzle.
▪️ You can only let go of the leash on special sites, since there are a lot of them in Tallinn.
▪️The owner must clean up the excrement after the pet. For uncleaned — a fine of up to 960 €. But probably no one has yet reached such a figure.
▪️ If you notice an animal showing signs of abuse, you can contact the Veterinary and Food Board. He has the right to check how the animal is treated and in what conditions it is kept.
If necessary, the department can issue an order to the owner, impose a fine on him or go to court to deprive the owner of the right to keep the pet.
And of course, the most important question is, who would you take to your family?
P.S. Koer — is a dog in Estonian ;)
