It’s Time to Raise the Wage
Big news — I’m proud to be cosponsor a bill that would raise the minimum wage to $15.
The fight for $15 is an important one for working Wisconsinites who want a chance to work hard and get ahead. Right now, a person making the minimum wage in Wisconsin makes $15,080 a year, making it nearly impossible for families to make ends meet after paying for the necessities.
I don’t know about you, but I’m sick of the GOP and Donald Trump’s hypocrisy when it comes to our workers. While they’re trying to cut taxes for the wealthiest Americans, those working the hardest day in and day out are left at the bottom of the heap.
Now, in Wisconsin we’re no strangers to hard work. But there’s an expectation that our hard work is rewarded by the chance to provide for our families, to make life better for the next generation, and maybe to set something aside for retirement.
That’s just not possible with a $7.25 minimum wage.
Wisconsinites around the state have told me how this legislation would help their families. So when the opportunity came to get on board — the choice was clear. Over the next several years, we need to adjust the minimum wage so that working Wisconsinites can provide for their families and have the chance to get ahead and stay ahead.
I’m with you in the fight for $15.
