One of the first times I used WordPress I struggled trying to figure out how to upload a GIF. The embed code was not working and when I uploaded it as a file the animation would not play. After figuring out what I did wrong, I realized that uploading a GIF is very simple.

Many GIF sites such as GIPHY also give users an embed code, so all you have to do is copy and paste the code into “text” and the GIF will appear.

Step 1

Add a New Page!

On your WordPress account, create a new page by clicking “Pages” on the right hand side of the screen. Or click “+New” at the top of the screen next to comments.

Step 2

Insert Media From your files

Giphy is a great place to create or find GIFs if you have not already created one! Make sure you have a GIF on your laptop or computer ready to insert.

Step 3

Once you have selected the file you are looking for click open and then. Make sure the file you are selecting ends in a “.gif”.

Step 4

Make sure the GIF is “Full Size”

Make sure the GIF says “full size” at the right of the page under “Attachment Display Settings”. If the GIF is not full size the animation may not work.

Step 5

Insert into the Page!

When you have made sure that the image is full sized, click the blue button that says “Insert into page” at the bottom.

Step 6

Enjoy!

Now the animated gif should be playing on your page! If you wish to publish, click the blue “publish” button on the right hand side of the page. If not, keep adding to the page!

GIFs can really liven a blog and add to it. If you don’t want to make a GIF, (It’s super easy!) you can find a GIF on GIPHY of just about anything. Inserting an animated GIF into your blog post may make people more prone to click it, or make them more interested!
