Video games are one of the most popular trends on youtube. There are millions of videos dedicated to gaming and thousands of channels that make lots of money. It can be pretty daunting to enter into this world without knowing how. I’ll set you up with the very basics of how to record and upload your gameplay.

  1. First we are going to download a program called “dxtory”
  2. Go to http://exkode.com/dxtory-features-en.html

3. Then go to the downloads page and download version 2.0.141 or the most recent stable version

4. When your download finishes click on it in the download bar and hit run

5. Go through the installation wizard and install the program

6. Locate the program where it was installed, there should be a link on your desktop

7. Open the program and get to know the different tabs

8. The tabs we want to focus on the most are the “keyboard” and “monitor” tabs

9. On the keyboard tab you will pick the keyboard shortcut to start video capture in a program. Personally I choose “Control + F12” because they are pretty easy to hit.

10. The second tab we will look at is the monitor tab where you can choose where the video capture information will show up in game.

11. Once you have your settings all set up go find your favorite game. I’ll be playing DiRT 4

12. Open up the game and dxtory should identify it and you should be able to see the fps counter in one of the corners. This is how you know it’s all working.

13. Get to a point that you want to record and hit Control + F12 to begin capture. Ounce you are done with the recording you wanted remember to hit Control + F12 again to finish the recording.

14. When you are done getting the recordings you want. Locate them on your hard drive. If you have trouble determining where they are located go back to dxtory and look at the folder tab and it should tell you where the videos are saved to.

15. Next you are going to want to go to Youtube.com and go to the top right corner where the “up arrow” is and click on it.

16. Next you should open up where the video is located and click and drag the video into the Youtube page. It will begin uploading.

17. Here you can edit the video name, create a description, and create tags to allow people to find your videos.

18. Final Product

Things to know:

  • dxtory is going to be a trial version meaning that there is a big ugly watermark on any videos you make
  • dxtory uses a lot of digital space, some videos may be short but can be multiple gigs
