Morning Sparrow Pose
Haibun
Every day sparrows charm a smile from me—they could charm a feather from a crow with their sweet and cheeky dispositions—they start hopping from one place to the next as though they know the pigeons are in charge; of course, no problem, but they’re just passing by, on a whim, so to speak, and is that a speck of something, needs cleaning from the ground, and …was it yours? So sorry, So terribly sorry, But now I’m aloft, And it is eaten … Oh, what is that … Over there—am I needed … in that direction … and here is another speck, on the ground, needing cleaning … Oh I’m sorry, I didn’t realise … allow me to fly over here a moment … for a very important reason … yes Sir, no Sir, and Madam … let me see what happened …
a burst of sparrows
out into the gloomy air
light a sudden beam
