A Walk By The Lake
And the love that keeps us together
I love how the first morning rays touch her hair. As if she wasn’t already gorgeous enough, those golden locks being gently caressed by the early breeze… movements of perfection.
I remember the day she convinced me to buy this lake house. Damn, I would buy her a spaceship if she wanted.
“Newton, I need to get away from the noise. I wanna wake up with the sound of birds, go to bed with the sound of crickets, and do my morning walk without risking being run over by a car. Peace, and quiet. This house is all of that, and we can afford it. Say yes, please?”
Puppy eyes followed, but she knew she had me at “Newton, I need”. Of course, it was a yes. I could work from home, anywhere in the world was good for me, as long as she was happy. That’s all I ever wanted since the day I first saw her — her happiness. Preferably, with me.
This is us now. Her morning starts with a cup of black coffee followed by a walk around the lake. She leaves the house and takes the wooden path that stretches from the back porch until near the water and about 40 minutes later she’s back for breakfast. Popcorn, our loyal rough collie, never leaves her side, whatever the weather. I remain inside, watching her, at least for the parts…
