In our SPO Spotlights, we highlight dedicated Stake Pool Operators from the Cardano blockchain. SPOs are the heartbeat of Cardano, integral to maintaining the network’s security and decentralization. These operators ensure the stability and reliability of the network by validating transactions and producing blocks. Today’s spotlight is on OTG Star Forge, a unique stake pool that operates entirely off-the-grid. Managed by Wayne, who brings a passion for off-grid living and technical expertise, Star Forge OTG is not just about blockchain security but also sustainability and innovation.

More About Star Forge OTG

Star Forge OTG is distinguished by its off-the-grid (OTG) operation. Wayne, the sole operator, runs the stake pool from his motorhome, powered by a solar-charged lithium battery bank and connected via a high-performance Starlink panel. This setup ensures continuous block validation even in remote locations, showcasing a commitment to sustainability and decentralization. The OTG stakepool started in January 2021, during Epoch 243, and has since minted over 2,700 blocks, significantly contributing to Cardano’s security and resilience.

Wayne is a founding member of the Armada Alliance and a core developer for Tosidrop. He dedicates much of his time to supporting single stake pool operators, helping them run efficient ARM-based computers. Wayne provides invaluable resources, including writing guides and offering a pre-configured image that allows operators to quickly set up and sync a node within an hour on a Raspberry Pi.

Star Forge OTG’s Mission

Star Forge OTG’s mission revolves around promoting decentralization and self-sovereignty. Wayne aims to operate independently of traditional financial systems, leveraging his technical skills and off-grid setup to maintain a secure and resilient stake pool. His dedication to privacy and digital freedom aligns with the broader goals of the Cardano ecosystem, aiming to offer open-source, privacy-protecting alternatives to centralized financial systems.

Delegator Rewards

Star Forge OTC has minted a total of 15 blocks this epoch and has now produced 2,722 blocks since the pools inception. The stake pool has a lifetime Return on Stake (ROS) of 3.18% and a 2 month ROS of 3.12%. The Stakepool has generated a total of 1.3 million ADA of delegator rewards.
