Use YOUR words to Dismantle Diet Culture

Are you working to dismantle Diet Culture? Do you want your experiences with Diet Culture to help someone else begin (or continue) the work of dismantling it?

If you answered yes, your words belong here.

Stories with keywords/topics like these are likely a great fit for Tapas Movement:

  • Body Positivity/Neutrality/Acceptance
  • Self Esteem
  • “Wellness” culture (and the challenges it presents)
  • “Fat Phobia” (and how it isn’t a phobia but a prejudice)
  • Intentional Weight Loss (and why it’s a problem)
  • Personal accounts of how/why you want to see Diet Culture dismantled
  • HAES

In a perfect world you’ll write something fresh and new for Tapas Movement (by submitting a DRAFT piece for editing/review). If, however, you feel that you have a piece that NEEDS to be in this publication and you’ve already published it personally (within the last 6 months), I’m open to reviewing it.

The main thing that is non-negotiable — your piece needs to be FREE FROM DIET CULTURE. In addition to this central requirement, I’ll be reviewing pieces to ensure that I only include those that:

  • Meet the Medium Rules for publication
  • Are well-written by YOU (humans only, no AI work will be considered)
  • Have at least one image included, that you have permission to use and have attributed correctly
  • Have topics/keywords selected that match the article
  • Are edited for grammar and spelling (While I’ll do a final edit if there are a lot of errors I’ll reject the submission with a general comment)
  • Match the tone of the publication

There are other things that will help you succeed here:

  • Bring a new, personal perspective
  • Keep your story short (2–5 minute reads are ideal for this publication)
  • Be a follower of Tapas Movement (reading what is already here will give you a sense of what I’m looking for AND will support the movement)
  • Engage with the pieces published here (comment on other stories that resonate with you)

While the bulk of what I publish in Tapas Movement is non-fiction/personal essay, I am open to exploring other genres (poetry, short fiction, etc.) as long as they align with the rest of the guidelines presented above.

If, after reading through all of that, you’d like to apply to be featured in Tapas Movement, please submit your application here and I’ll reach out to you (generally within 14 days).

Let’s change the world!
