Who is The Helper in Target of Desire?
(Episode 1 spoilers inside)
Almost everything in Target of Desire has multiple interpretations. The simplest explanation is not necessarily the correct one. It’s easy to make certain assumptions, and miss subtle details.
One such detail is the nature of The Helper. The Helper is who Maia calls for help after she finds the men in suits at the cabin.
After Maia calls The Helper, a large man comes and takes her to the wise man. Thus, it’s easy to assume Maia called the wise man on the phone.
This assumption would ignore the existence of The Helper. The simplest explanation is The Helper is the wise man. However, The Helper could be someone completely different.
After the large man carries Maia away, she appears in the presence of Maria. How did Maia get there?
The simplest explanation is the large man left her there. Another explanation is that Maia escaped from the nearby psychiatric hospital.
Consider the possibility that Maria is The Helper. Maria was somehow able to save Maia from the large man. This would explain why she was willing to give a place on her sofa to Maia, a buff woman who was laying in the grass outside of the psychiatric hospital.
