There are brands that like to play some magic tricks with our minds. Brands which are memorable and trigger something deep in our souls.

Now try to remember the last time you stood mesmerised in front of a painting, in a museum, as if you were in a trance. And the memory it’s still there, anchored in some way, isn’t it? Very similar to some brand experiences, and it’s no coincidence.

Art and branding have lots in common and they’ve inspired each other a lot. And of course we all know at least one great example when brands inspired art - Andy Warhol’s “Campbell's Soup Cans”. But there are a lot more many examples of brands that got their inspiration from art. One of them is the iconic Balenciaga.

If you’re curious how that worked for Cristóbal Balenciaga, this genius of both branding and fashion design, check this inspiring exhibition in his honour - “Balenciaga and Spanish painting”, now available online at Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza: http://l.tarnovski.com/balenciaga-art.
