Grab your flannel shirts and ring pops people! The nineties are coming back in style. But the real question is, did they ever go out of style?

Was there ever a time you saw Jennifer Aniston in an episode of Friends and thought she didn’t look bangin’ in that crop top? Or someone asked you to watch Seinfeld and you said no thanks, I’ll just sit here and watch Big Bang Theory instead?

Exactly.

The nineties were superior in many ways. And while I could go on for a while, this post will focus all of my nineties angst towards the music genre. The only thing better than jamming out to a classic nineties song is listening to that song get covered by a really cool indie band (or Leighton Meester, which is practically the same thing). So without further introduction, here are the top five nineties covers by indie bands.

1. Real Estate covers The Cranberries: Linger

2. MØ Covers The Spice Girls: Say You’ll Be There

3. Twin Shadow Covers U2: With or Without You

(so this is technically a late eighties song, but it was too good not to include)

4. Charli XCX covers Backstreet Boys: I Want It That Way

5. Leighton Meester covers the Cardigans: Lovefool
