Chickpeas, or garbanzo beans, are a nutritional highflyer enjoyed in various dishes. They are a rich source of protein, healthy carbs, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and trace elements, making them a versatile addition to any balanced diet. They can be eaten out of a can with a little salt and pepper or cooked and then made into hummus and falafel. They are also part of some breakfast cereals and pasta. They can be roasted as a healthy snack alternative to pretzels and chips.

Chickpeas appear in early recordings in Turkey about 3500 BCE and in France 6790 BCE. India produces the most chickpeas worldwide, but they are grown in more than 50 countries.

Chickpeas are a staple in Middle Eastern and Indian cuisine, featured in various dishes such as dips, stews, curries, daals, and tagines. They can also be rehydrated from their dried form and are the main ingredient in popular dishes like falafel. Because of their high fiber content, they provide a healthy degree of satiety.
