August 2021 wrap-up

August is usually a slow month for even the busiest companies, but we didn’t let that stop us from working on new features, partnerships, and case studies. From integrating Cardano to helping HaggleX save 70% of maintenance costs to our new gas pump feature, we bid farewell to this summer in style. Read on and find out what we were up to the last four weeks.

Cardano is one of the most promising and highly anticipated blockchains for dApp development, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome it into Tatum. You can now harness the power of Cardano’s unique Ourobouros protocol to build super scalable apps with an unparalleled degree of security. Learn all that you can do with it in our dedicated article.

August also saw our agreement with Algorand, a carbon-neutral blockchain that accelerates the convergence between traditional and decentralized finance. Once it’s integrated into Tatum, it will be simpler than ever for developers to build on it. Here is the announcement on the collaboration.

Partnerships

Hosting Harmony on Tatum back in June was the beginning of a productive relationship altogether. Fast forward to August and what you have is our partnership on their hackathon (ending Sep 30) Bridging TradFi to DeFi where we’ll be holding a workshop and giving away an awesome prize to some lucky winners.

Our involvement in industry events doesn't stop there. We are official partners of Celo Camp 2021! Previous Celo Camp alumni AwardPool and HoneyCoin have gone on to build their solutions on Tatum, and we’re looking forward to mentoring a new generation of developers to help them innovate on one of the most forward-thinking blockchains around.

New developer resources

A new month means new features in Tatum as our quest for creating the best blockchain developer experience never stops. The gas pump feature eliminates the hassle and most of the gas fees of performing transactions on behalf of your users for any custodial exchange, fintech app, or marketplace.

For those dealing with a large volume of transactions, this can be a complete game-changer. Find out how it works and how to get it set up in no time in our full article.

Our Postman public workspace is the ideal tool for testing API calls and getting familiar with Tatum. There, you’ll find all of our API calls in a convenient Postman, as well as sub-collections of the API endpoints we refer to in our documentation and tutorials. A centralized resource for everything you need to know about our API.

We also put together a YouTube video workshop on how to build an app on Harmony using Tatum. Watch the video and learn everything from how to sign up for a free API key to how to generate wallets, deploy NFTs, and set up a custodial backend.

The “How to build NFT marketplaces — Part 1 video was welcomed with open arms in May so we thought it would be great to make it into an article as well, focusing on the user journeyand all of the components you need to consider for your marketplace.

Another set of great features we were able to launch in the month of August were related to instant peer-to-peer NFT marketplaces. With just a few simple API calls, you can build the backend for an entire marketplace. Read more on how to do that in our article.

Case studies and interviews

We took some time to talk to Chris Jombo, CTO at HaggleX about their experience since migrating to Tatum. HaggleX saved 70% of maintenance costs by building their crypto-wallet solution on Tatum and all it took to integrate was one day. Their app can now smoothly scale to thousands of transactions per second to keep up with their rapidly expanding user base. For more details, read the entire case study.

We also had the pleasure of sitting down with Peter Abilla, VP of Marketing at Harmony, and discuss the exciting possibilities of blockchain in finance, the future of Harmony, and how they’re tackling the challenge of interoperability. Read the full interview or watch it on our YouTube channel.
