Background

Award Pool is a platform that provides companies with a unique way to engage their audience with custom-made challenges and competitions. They had already built a full-fledged user interface, but they were struggling to implement a crucial component that has been making waves in the digital world — NFTs. They had been searching for a tool that would allow them to create wallets, public addresses, private keys, and mint/burn tokens on the fly. However, they were unable to find a simple API that abstracted the complexities of managing multiple ERC20/721 compliant platforms. Then they found Tatum.

“I’ve tried several different APIs and systems and found Tatum to be the most flexible and easy to work with. If I can’t get it working within a few minutes, I generally move onto the next thing. I was up and running within the first few minutes of trying it, and when I had a minor issue, Samuel and the team were there to answer my questions.” — Reuven Cohen, (Co-founder & CEO of Award Pool)

The Solution

Using Tatum, Award Pool was able to integrate NFT functionality in just 5 hours. Adding NFTs on the Celo blockchain took them just 30 minutes.

“Because the Tatum API is standardized, when we implemented the Celo ERC20/721 calls, all we needed to do was replace any reference to Ethereum with Celo and include the Fee type. It literally just worked,“ explains Cohen.

Cost was a major limiting factor, as fees on Ethereum have become prohibitively expensive. Minting a token on Celo costs a fraction of what it does on Ethereum, and Tatum’s interoperability provided an ideal solution to work on both blockchains. They can now deploy NTFs on Celo and recreate the tokens on Ethereum upon request.

“We can mint NFT tokens as needed at almost no cost, where before, it cost $30+ per mint. Now we’re paying less than $0.001, and the response time is 10x faster,” says Cohen.

Award Pool also eliminated a considerable amount of overhead costs by leveraging Tatum’s infrastructure. Blockchain solutions require nodes and hiring developers to run and manage them is extremely expensive. However, Tatum’s team runs nodes for clients and has extensive experience with scaling. As Award Pool continues along its ambitious growth trajectory, they will be able to add nodes as needed to keep up with their user base.

Overall, Award Pool has been thrilled with Tatum’s ease-of-use, functionality, and helpful team.

“A responsive team that not only answers our questions but makes adjustments based on our feedback has been a tremendous win for us,” says Cohen.
