We know that the behavior of each passenger who uses and experiences airports is different from each other. In my previous article, I grouped passenger types and behaviors and focused on the airport experience and behavior of first-time travelers. In this article, I will write about the second passenger type, regular travelers.

Let’s get into the article without wasting any time :)

2. Regular Travelers

One crucial aspect of a passenger’s airport experience is the category of individuals who travel frequently. These individuals are typically those who regularly embark on flights for business purposes, prefer air travel for domestic journeys due to its speed, or choose air transportation for their international trips.

The decision to opt for airlines consistently offers various benefits that significantly enhance the passenger’s overall experience. The most notable distinction between a first-time airport visitor and a seasoned traveler is the latter’s familiarity with airport procedures, mainly if they frequently use the same airport. Their knowledge and experience are even more refined. This level of expertise and understanding positively influences every passenger’s journey, from arriving at the airport to boarding the plane. For instance, a frequent traveler knows the fastest and most convenient routes to the airport, accurately estimates travel times, and plans their departure accordingly. Travelers who regularly choose airlines may possess detailed knowledge, such as the window for check-in counters opening before departure or when gate assignments are announced, allowing them to maximize their time and avoid aimless waiting at the airport.

While first-time travelers may become captivated by airport shops or struggle to navigate between terminals, regular travelers have a clear sense of how much time remains after clearing passport control and methodically managing their schedule. They exhibit distinct behaviors, including time management, minimal interaction with fellow passengers and staff unless necessary, and calculated decisions regarding food and beverages. Furthermore, they ensure their luggage adheres to the specified weight and dimension limits and pay close attention to prohibited items in their baggage.

Regular travelers are well-versed in airport procedures and requirements, requiring minimal guidance from airport staff, except in exceptional circumstances, ensuring a seamless travel experience. However, it’s essential to note that the abundance of information at their disposal can occasionally lead to oversight or challenges.
During specific periods, airports may experience unexpectedly high passenger volumes, resulting in unforeseen disruptions. This was particularly evident in 2022, when Turkey emerged as a favored destination for foreign tourists due to favorable exchange rates. This surge in passengers exceeded expectations and led to unexpected issues in both arrival and departure terminals. Passengers faced extended wait times at check-in and passport control and encountered difficulties securing seats in dining and waiting areas. These issues negatively affected not only first-time travelers but all passengers. Undeniably, such problems can detrimentally impact the overall travel experience.

The frequency of a passenger’s travel is directly proportional to their knowledge of airport and flight procedures. Each bit of acquired knowledge contributes to a smoother journey with fewer complications and greater self-sufficiency for the passenger at the airport.”

Stay tuned for my articles on other passenger types and behaviors :)
