Before a commercial heavy motor vehicle with a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more is registered in your name or under your business name across the states, you must submit proof that the Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax has been paid. By reporting and paying the HVUT Form 2290, IRS processes it and issues you the Watermarked Schedule 1 Receipt as a Proof of Payment.

IRS HVUT can be paid directly from your bank account as direct debit or electronic funds withdrawal while reporting your 2290 tax form electronically. You can also choose EFTPS or Card Payment methods to pay 2290 taxes. You can also write a check/money order to pay 2290 taxes. However EFW, direct debit is the easiest and convenient way of paying the 2290 taxes with the IRS.

Getting Start with Form 2290 Pre File

To start with Form 2290 Pre filing you need to have these information ready;

  • Employer Identification Number. You cannot use your Social Security number. Don’t have an EIN? Apply now; allow four weeks for your new EIN to be established in our systems before filing your Form 2290.
  • Use the Legal Business Name that you used while claiming your EIN. Your e-file name control must match your EIN name. You cannot use dba name in your 2290 tax return.
