Millions of euros per week: how Taxfix impacts people’s lives

If you know our founding story, you understand what makes us get up in the morning is being able to positively impact the world. At Taxfix, we identified the single biggest factor to help regular people — ensuring they receive all the money they are entitled to and work so hard for, especially those that need it most.

Taxes are a good thing — we need them. Why? Taxes, as well as a progressive tax system with specific deductions, are a great way to regulate the economy and increase equality in an unequal world. The problem is most people can’t fully benefit from this tax system because they are unable to file an optimised tax return for all the deductions they are eligible for.

Did you know the average German spends about double the amount on tax payments than on food and beverages each month? This rises to five times more spent on their taxes than on clothes. In fact, paying taxes is the largest expense of any household, outside rent and insurance.

By reducing income taxes and claiming refunds, we’re leverage the biggest amount of saving potential — usually over € 974 per year. Since 22% of people do not even submit a tax return, and of those who do, most do not usually maximise their return. This amounts to several billion euros remaining unclaimed every year.

With our digital tax accountant, every single week we claim back millions of euros in tax deductions for our users. Most of them have never been able to file a tax return before because it was too hard, too intimidating or too time-consuming.

By making tax filing easy, we empower people to file for the first time. Hence, we have an immense direct economic impact on the lives of thousands of people. This is something we are extremely proud of!

The tax refunds we gain for our users is the North Star Metric (Main KPI) for Taxfix. Every week, we count the millions of euros we help people to claim back. For every €100,000, we add a glass marble to a cylinder in the middle of our office. Once full, each cylinder represents €100 million in refunds.

We’re working hard to align everything in our long term strategy, yearly goals, quarterly planning, down to every Key Performance Indicator (KPI), towards optimising our North Star Metric that impacts our user’s lives.

Besides the enormous economic impact, the emotional impact of being able to file a tax return so much faster and easier, brings a smile to thousands of people every week. There is no better way to make people fall in love with a solution than to make something awful awesome.
