About “Calls”

Mar 12, 2017 · 2 min read

There’s coming a new Telegram feature soon. Calls. I will sum up all the information I got so far:

It’s coming soon:

It’s coming soon. I don’t know any date yet but the Developers are usually pushing out updates during the week days and usually every 2 to 5 weeks. So it isn’t that unlikely also because the feature seems almost finished in the latest beta versions. And Telegram is not WhatsApp, so they are publishing features much earlier after teasing than WhatsApp does.

End-to-end encryption:

You’re calls will be safe. Unless the CIA will crack your device you’ll be able to do calls without any doubts about encryption.

No group calls:

Group calls aren’t possible yet and it’s unlikely it will be in the final version. Maybe that’s a feature Telegram will add later.

Ability to block certain people:

You don’t have to fear to be called at night by your parents, because you’ll have the option to choose who can call you, like you can choose who will see your last only time etc.

Good quality, low data consumption:

It seems like Telegram implemented it much better than WhatsApp does. People who were already able to try the new feature reported excellent quality and just low data consumption. That’s really interesting, because Telegram is used by many people who haven’t 4G everywhere.

No phone number needed:

Like with texting on Telegram, you just need the username of the person you want to call.

Ability to set quality:

You’ll be able to check and change the quality data usage ratio.

I’ll keep this post updated.
