Retaining talent matters

Retaining talent is key for a company’s longevity. But what can companies do to keep top talents? Research shows that employees need to feel valued, and the best way to achieve this is by building a people-centric culture and giving teams impactful work.

Developing a people-centric culture

Building a people-centric culture encourages employees to be themselves. It means valuing team members and trusting them to manage their work in alignment with business needs and their own. For this to work, employers need to build an environment of psychological safety. As a result, employees will bring a more creative, solution-driven mindset to work.

The ideal way of creating such an environment is through the creation of a knowledge-sharing culture, where new working methodologies, tools, and solutions are explored. Working like this is motivating for teams, as they can grow their technical knowledge in a real-world context for good.

The evolution of this mindset is creating growth opportunities. One of the main reasons employees leave jobs, is due to few career advancement possibilities. A possible remedy to this challenge, is through implementing role-specific growth paths. This requires a focus on putting the right people in the right roles, and providing feedback and training, so that each individual can track their progress, and grow toward the next step in their careers.

Driving impactful work

Employees leave roles they aren’t challenged or inspired by. To make sure this doesn’t happen, employers need to give their teams impactful work. A concrete example of this in the real world is to work on developing software solutions that contribute to more electric, sustainable mobility. This challenge provides the benefit of giving back to the planet while solving a real-world transportation challenge. By using the technologies of tomorrow to explore potential solutions, employees are part of directly improving the connectivity of vehicles, increasing the offer of e-mobility options, and working to provide customers with an enhanced experience.

What it all means

Retaining talent will continue to be a priority as we adapt to uncertainty. By giving teams the balance and drive they need to feel valued, companies can stay ahead of the retention curve and keep the people they need.
