Parents worry about how excessive mobile use is affecting their children but struggle to tame their tech habits. Parenting in a digitally inundated environment presents dilemmas for many moms and dads. It was observed what children — ranging in age from five to 16 — did with gadgets, and how long they spent staring at them. Based on the findings, children now seem to crave screen time with their tablets and phones more than they do sugar and sweets.

When it comes to preparing your children for the future, there are few better ways to do so than to help them learn tech(coding, design, robotics and so on). Coding helps kids develop academic skills, build qualities like perseverance and organization, and gain valuable 21st century skills that can even translate into a career.

The Creative Kids Zone (TCKzone)

Empowering Creative Kids Through Tech. A Program set up to train kids to code, design and do other awesome things in tech.

Upon discovery that 6 out of 10 most successful tech leaders started coding before the age of 15, Oluwadamilola Soyombo launched The Creative Kids Zone in May 2019, to train kids in tech skills. Her aim is simple:

  1. To make kids enthusiastic about learning technology.
  2. To introduce kids to the world of information technology.
  3. To educate kids with the skills they need for the jobs of the future.
  4. To create young ambassadors for technology.

Mission

To expand creativity in as many kids as possible by training and empowering them with technological skillset, and thereby increasing the number of young minds in Tech and preparing for the Future.

Vision

Reach out to thousands of kids in African communities and make them ambassadors for technology.

Intended Audience

Children within the age bracket of 5–16 years in different communities, state, and African countries.

Training Sessions

Our training sessions are meticulously planned by our tutors and volunteers. They are efficiently designed to deliver our objectives geared towards maximum efficiency. Time is precious and considering the attention span of kids our goal for an event would be to create excitement while taking up the least amount of your time possible.

Training sessions will be comprised of both activities and lectures that will touch upon the following subjects: Coding, Design, Robotics (arduino), Blogging and other tech subjects that we would add as we expand.

When would the Training Sessions hold

These training would be bi-monthly (ie every two months).

Payment

The training sessions are 100 percent free. However, we accept donations and sponsorship. You can donate using this Donation link

What do the Kids need

Kids are to come to the training venue with laptops, however we know how this is going to be a big hiccup, so we intend partnering with companies who can provide/lease this laptops to us whenever we have a training

Intended communities and venue

These communities would be selected according to the number of interested participants and the availability of a venue. Venues are likely to be schools thats big enough to accomodate the kids and also has enough computers and adequate security.

Once we want to zone a community we reach out to different schools owners around that community to partner with us so that their school venue can be used.

After the Training Sessions

After the free one-day event organised by TCKzone in a state/community. The Kids are introduced to Dephancy School of Technology, which is one of our partners, and they would be in charge of organising further trainings for the kids, if they pick interest in it.

At the end of a TCKZone calendar year, an Exhibition Event would be organised for all Creative Kids from every of our Zone to come showcase the projects they have been able to build after the training we had with them, there would be a lot of prizes to be won.

Milestones

  • 2 year

Within 2 years, we intend to introduce 2,000 young kids to the tech world, coding, design and much more.

  • 5 years

To train and equip 4,000 kids in tech within the space 10 years.

You can Volunteer to be part of this movement and help build this vision with us.

Because our events are totally free, we partner with organizations to make every event possible. We also allow individuals to sponsor as well.
