Sports games can become repetitive for the simple fact that you cannot change the rules to the game or add in unique features that’ll impact how the game is played. One of the most popular multiplayer games right now is based off of a real life sport, except it has a unique twist to it. Rocket League is a soccer based game that uses cars instead of traditional humans and has many more features that separate itself from the real sport.

In Rocket League you play as a single car. There are many different game modes that allow you to play alongside teammates or by yourself vs another player. These game modes are 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4. What makes Rocket League unique is not only the fact that you use cars to play a variation of soccer, but you can also play other sports. They have basketball, hockey which is just the regular soccer, but with a puck, and occasionally they have a football game mode as well as other different game modes such as rumble or drop shot.

Rocket League is an addictive game for anyone who likes or even doesn’t like sports. The fast gameplay and minimal in game patches needed make the game fun every time. That being said there are some down falls to the game. The main one is that the game can be repetitive to casual players. Since there are not special attributes for each player like traditional sports games, the games come down to your own personal skill. Which leads to the next problem, the skill curve. Rocket League is a fun way to pass time every so often, but if you wanted to climb higher in the ranks or even hold your own in a casual game then it may make most new players avoid the game. The learning curve for the game is tough. It’s a game that takes a lot of practice on your own such as using the practice tool or having a friend coach you. It’s rare for any new player to instantly pick up the game and be able to naturally pick up the basic mechanics. The tough learning curve and skill gap keeps most new players from learning or even to continue playing.

That being said though the good outweighs the bad for Rocket League. It is genuinely a fun game to mess around on with friends or a competitive masterpiece if that’s what you like. The games are quick, fast paced, and give a good adrenaline rush for anyone who plays.
