I made a game based on the prompt “Preparation — Set It Up, Let It Go”. I decided to name the game “Set Up Attack”. In the game two players set up shapes in a horizontal order. Each player gets ten shapes in total to set up. You get 4 circles, 3 triangles, 2 squares and 1 star. Each shape can do a certain amount of damage depending on a dice roll. Circles can roll up to 6, triangles can roll up to 8, squares can roll up to 10 and the star can roll up to 12. The first shapes in the players line attack each other. Whoever roles a higher number defeats the shape with the lower role. The shape that wins keeps fighting until beaten. Setting these shapes up can require some strategy but there is also a lot of random chance as well. I tested the game during class and the game seemed balanced and pretty fun. It was a little hard to explain but once we got started it was pretty simple. I think maybe to avoid any confusion I can write a clear instruction manual with some pictures. I also could change the name to something more catchy as the current name isn’t set in stone. What stood out to the players was that the game was a short but fun game. It moves at a fast pace which keeps people from getting bored. If I wanted the games to be longer though then I could add a mode with more shapes.
