So when we were asked to review a game, I figured that it should be a game that I have been playing a lot recently, so I could either pick a game that I haven’t finished yet(Ghost of Tsushima has a ton to do that I don’t even think I’m halfway done after about 20–25ish hours) or one of the newest trends, Fall Guys.

Fall Guys Ultimate Knockout is a battle royal that feels like a bunch of Mario Party Mini Games. Presented as the greatest game show, you control a fall guy, I have no idea what their names are really, a pay through 4–6 rounds of these mini games and the winner is determined after surviving through to the end of all the rounds.

There are a few game types that make up the rounds. There’s the get to the end before a chunk of people games, like Whirlygig, which has a bunch of fans spin as the obstacles, and See Saw, which has you go on see saws and don’t fall off or you have to go back to whatever checkpoint you hit. Team games, where you are put on teams and have to be the winning team, which has Fall Ball, which is soccer but for this game, and Jinxed, where you have to avoid jinxed members of the other team and whoever has the last players not jinxed wins. There’s also Survival games, where you have to outlast other competitors before they fall, like Block Party, where you have to avoid blocks moving your way before the time runs out, and Final Stages, where if you are the last one standing or get to the goal first, you win, like Hex-a-Gone, which has you step on hexagons and you must step on them before they disappear and the last one standing wins.

I think that this is a really good way to deviate from the battle royal genre, but it doesn’t come without it’s problems. Due to this being from a indie studio and not a big company like Epic or Activision, servers can be bad at times and disconnect people from their games. Not only that but glitches and hacks can easily be exploited, especially on the PC version of the game. Also, there is not a big variety of games, so it can get repetitive and boring at times.

The game is very fun, however, by yourself or with others. You can play with friends in parties up to 4, and if someone on your team wins, you can count it as a win, even though it won’t count as your crown, but going through the struggles with friends is a nice experience to have. Because it is not a shooter like most battle royales, it feels very unique when you first play it, which makes it an exciting experience.

Although it has it’s flaws, Fall Guys is still a fun game, especially with friends, however I can’t recommend it for it’s current price tag of $19.99 since I got it with PS Plus for free when it came out in August. I think with my experience it’s worth 10 bucks, but I really think that like most battle royale games, it should be free. Hopefully with Season 2 in a couple of weeks, some of my concerns are fix. I give Fall Guys a solid 3.5/5, not enough variety, but a fun experience.
