Boston Youth Recap!

This past Wednesday the youth of Company One, Press Pass TV and Hyde Square Task Force came together for the July 2016 Boston Youth Voice event.

Boston Youth Voice was established in February 2015 to break down cultural & neighborhood silos between Boston youth and create safe and creative spaces for Boston youth to come together. The program gives Boston youth snapshots of various career paths in the cultural industries to increase conversation and access to career pathways that are inspired by art, passion and service.

The month’s event was hosted in collaboration with Company One Theatre in order to create an interactive event space and conversation for Boston youth to explore career options within the creative industry of Theatre & Production.

Company One youth ambassadors lead the group through a series of ice breakers to open up the event. They then broke into 5 different groups and were given a Prom Setting to create 5 minute skits to develop a storyline and script. Two members from each group worked on costume and design sketches while fellow members worked with professional teaching artists to create and script & rehearse for the performance.

Each group performed their 5 minute screenplays to the group. The youth addressed issues from home dynamics to sexuality and relationship dynamics.

Company One staff evaluated each performance and the team who created the most original, performance was given a prize.

Many thanks to Company One for their planning and support on this event! Their innovative and socially conscious programs, yet again delivered nothing short of an organized, interactive, and most importantly fun event for Boston youth.

Be sure to support Company One by attending their most current production The T Party.
