MFA Guards Rally Today to end Hiring Freeze

Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts’ guards will be rallying outside the museum today from noon to 3pm asking that the museum drop the hiring freeze imposed in 2013 that has reduced staff from 127 to 92. The shortfall has been filled by an outside firm, Securitas, according to the museum guards’ union, MISU.

Museum guards are specialists in the needs of the museum collection’s security and in providing knowledgeable assistance to patrons. They represent many years of collective experience for the specific monitoring and public relations tasks the museum requires. Replacing them with general purpose security will not further the MFA’s founding mission nor the patron experience.
